Spring Skin

Written by  Stephanie Yeboah
As the weather transitions, so does our skin. As prevention is better than cure, here are a few tips on how to ensure that transition occurs as smoothly as possible.

Post Winter Worry: “My skin’s dry and blotchy”

One downside to the first sign of summer is the face-battering winter leaves behind. Get over the central heating, icy winds and comfort eating fallout with a new moisturising philosophy.

Spring skin solution:

You need to up the skin protection, but also switch to a lighter formula so your skin can breathe a bit. Neutrogena Multi-Defence Daily Moisturiser SPF25, £7.49 helps rebuild the skin’s barrier and is light enough to load on everyday without clogging pores. Make sure you use a toner like Clarins Daily Energizer Wake Up Booster, £17 first. Think of it as your morning OJ for skin, so that it’s boosted in preparation for extra moisturiser. It tightens pores too, so skin looks smoother and brighter.

Post-Winter Worry: “My skin looks grey and tired”

Grey might be on trend in the nail-polish stakes, but it’s a beauty blunder when it comes to your skin.

Spring skin solution:

Perk up your colour with a foolproof creamy blusher. My favourite is Sleek Blush in Pan Tao, £4.30. It’s just pink enough to look natural, but gives a pop to kick any greyness into touch. You don’t want to go all out tanned yet, but a tiny hint perks up the complexion.

Blend Eyeko Tinted Cream, £8.50 over temples and on cheekbones for instant warmth where the sun naturally hits.

Post-Winter Worry: “I’m stuck in a heavy foundation rut”

It’s not just a layer of clothing you need to shed as the weather warms up- do the same with your foundation for spring-skin readiness.

Spring skin solution:

As the light gets brighter, you’ll need a more sheer base that doesn’t look obvious, but still gets coverage. Tinted moisturiser alone should wait until you’ve had a bit more skin-saving vitamin D from the sun, but if you switch to a foundation shade that’s just half a tone darker, it’ll give you a warm, fresh glow. If you suffer from oil-induced shine, L’Oreal Infallible High Precision Foundation Brush, £12.99 will blot it out and last all day.

Post-Winter Worry: “I can’t bare my legs yet”

Now we’re getting ready to abandon woolly tights, cosy jumpers and snug parkas in favour of showing a bit of flesh, it’s time for some body maintenance.

Spring Skin Solution:

You all know about the pros of body brushing by now, but if you get into a specific leg-boosting routine, you’ll get double the results in half the time. First smooth them out with an exfoliating body brush-take off the handle and hold the head in your palm, then do short, hard sweeps towards your tummy. While doing this, squeeze on a layer of Garnier Body Intense 7 Days Ultra-Softening Lotion, £2.99 and use your knuckles to massage it in circles. It is rich enough to tackle flaky patches but feels so light that it’s perfect for warmer weather!
