Pursuing Your Happiness

Pursuing Your Happiness
Happiness is a state of mind that most desire, although it’s not always easy to stay in that blissful mood. I’m sure we’ve all had those days when we’ve just felt downright gloomy, and wished that things were going a little better.

Although sadness is a normal emotion just like any other, when we’re in that bad place, it’s not good to stay in it too long. And since pursuing your happiness should I ideally be a human right, I think we should focus on that.

Recently I’ve been really homesick. My friends, family, the American culture and everything that I’m so used to and is now thousands of miles away from me. This often causes me to feel anything but happiness. So what was I supposed to do? I admit, at first I didn’t know. I continued to feel sad. Then I realised I needed to get over it! I saw that I was feeling a little too pitiful and that I needed to pursue new happiness.

So how do we begin to start pursing new happiness? And how do you continue to stay happy? Although I’m still trying to figure the exact details out, I say we work on this together. Here are some actions I plan on taking to get me there. Join me!

Show Gratitude

Being appreciative of what you have is a guaranteed way of being happy. It can be the simplest things that you don’t necessarily think about often; the great people you work with or the weather today. It doesn’t matter! Expressing your gratitude for the things you’re blessed with will keep you in a positive mind-set and will surely put a smile on your face. It might also be beneficial to keep a journal and start writing these things down.

Volunteer

Personal happiness can come from making others happy. Doesn’t it make you feel good when you’ve done something good for someone else? Putting a smile on someone else’s face and making their day a little better, is a great way of making ourselves happier.

Exercise

Aside from the fact that exercising makes you healthier and releases endorphins that give you a feel-good energy, it’s also a great confidence builder!

Set out to experience new things and meet new people

These two go hand-in-hand. If you’re invited to an unfamiliar event or party, try something new and just go! Don’t be afraid to go somewhere by yourself. Sign up for a class or join a book club. You’ll be able to meet people with similar interests. Meet new people and you’ll eventually make new friends. The benefit of new friends is lots of fun, new memories and more happiness.
