Cheekbones & Contouring: Handy Tricks

Written by  Stephanie Yeboah
High cheekbones are a genetic gift that most of us don't get. However anyone can be the proud owner of a pair of glamourous cheekbones with some cleverly done contouring!

Here are some great tools to get started with:

Sleek Makeup Contour Kit – £5.99

MAC Blush in ‘Ambering Rose’ - £16.50

EcoTools Bamboo Blush Brush - £6.00

NARS Cream Blush in Montenegro -£21.00

Maybelline Dream Mousse Bronzer - £6.00

While not all of us are blessed with the impossibly high cheekbones that lace the faces of stars such as Johnny Depp and Kate Moss, there are a few easy tips and tricks on how to shadow your cheekbones and accentuate your natural beauty.

The easiest way to achieve high, prominent cheekbones is by contouring. Contouring sculpts your face and creates a slimming effect. By using highlighters and a slightly darker facial powder, you can achieve this effect in no time.

Before you get started, it is important to remember that you pick a blusher that is right for your skin tone. For those wary of using blush, fret not! There is a perfect blush tone for everyone and it's a great way of adding colour and warmth to the skin.

What is the right way to apply blusher?

You need to find where your cheekbones lie before you apply blusher. People have high, low or sunken cheekbones. If you’re not sure, I would recommend using a pencil or a brush tool and holding it from the base of your nose to the top of your ear. This will give you your perfect blusher guideline. Ensure that there are at least two fingers worth of space between the side of your nose and where the blusher arrives.

How do you contour cheeks?

The best way to contour is to hold your brush at an angle from the corner of the mouth to the middle of the ear; this is the best line to apply along. The highlight colour should be applied from behind your eye level towards the hairline and should sit above the blusher. Creating a darker hue with the contour along your jaw instantly creates a shadow underneath your cheekbone; thus making your cheekbone stand out!
