Building up your Makeup kit : Brushes

Written by  Shirley Eniang
Makeup brushes are a must-have in any woman's makeup kit! To achieve great results with your makeup, you need to invest in some. There are different types of brushes, and each serves it's purpose. I've compiled a list of the basic brush must-haves for those who are new to makeup, or just want to know the different types of brushes and what they are best used for.

I've included my favourite MAC brushes, as well as cheaper alternatives (dupes) that are still of good quality!

FACE

There are three main brushes that should reside in your kit and they are…

1.Foundation Brush: A flat brush, made to cover all areas of the face with foundation.
My Fave: MAC 190, £25.00
Dupe: Gosh Foundation Brush, £9.99

2. Powder Brush: A big fluffy brush that allows for easy application of powder and mineral products.
My Fave: MAC 150, £30.00
Dupe: Barry M Blush Brush, £5.75

3. Blush Brush: Similar to the powder brush, but designed for better control when applying blush.
My Fave: MAC 129, £25.00
Dupe: Eco Tools Bamboo Blush Brush, £7.99

EYES

These brushes would make a lot of difference to how your eye makeup turns out...

4. Flat Shading Brush: A flat dense brush used to sweep eyeshadow across the lid.
My Fave: MAC 239, £17.50
Dupe: Boots 17 Eyeshadow Brush, £2.00

5. Tapered Blending Brush: A dense tapered brush for blending out harsh lines for a cleaner eye makeup look.
My Fave: MAC 217, £14.50
Dupe: Boots No7 Eyeshadow Blend and Contour Brush, £6.50

6. Pencil Brush: A fine pointed brush used to smudge eyeshadow under the lash line to create a smoky effect.
My Fave: MAC 219, £17.50
Dupe: Boots No. 7 Smokey Eye Liner Brush, £6.50

LIPS

7. Lip Brush: For precise application of lip products. Handy for touch-ups too.
My Fave: MAC 316, £14.50
Dupe: No7 Essential Lip Brush, £6.50

TIP: Clean your makeup brushes often, to prevent build up of bacteria, that may cause unwanted breakouts! Rub them in a tissue blotted with a bit of oil, wash with a baby shampoo and rinse with warm water to get them squeaky clean! :)
