Blogger Spotlight: Sabrina

Blogger Spotlight: Sabrina
Sabrina is the force behind "afterDRK", a fashion blog currently taking the e-sphere by a storm. We caught up with her to discuss her journey thus far.

What inspired you to start your blog?

Mainly other bloggers. I used to (and I still do) read a lot of blogs from girls all over the world and I got major inspiration from them. I just wanted to see if I could give a little inspiration back. Blogging became my biggest creative outlet and that's an important thing to me.

Were you surprised by its recent growth in popularity?
I never thought it would grow this big, but it slowly became popular and it is still growing each and every day. It didn't really come as a huge surprise, since it was a long and slow process and didn't blow up in one day!

What's your main source of style inspiration?
I'm a strong believer that inspiration is in everything. I’m inspired by music, other bloggers, books, Miroslava Duma and Christina Centenera. I’m also really into everything Scandinavian!

What's your earliest fashion related memory?
I used to go shopping with my mom a lot and I had a really strong opinion about all the clothes and outfits my mom put me in. When I was about 3 and she put me in a new dress or something, I always ran upstairs to our big mirror to see how I looked!

There's a lot of pressure on fashion bloggers to post frequently and wear different clothes in each post. What's your advice to fashion bloggers who want to maintain a balance between shopping wisely, keeping posts varied and posting regularly?
There's nothing wrong with recycling your clothing, shoes and bags. Try to build a steady basic collection and then buy something special and maybe a little more expensive every once in a while. No one will notice when you're wearing the same simple white tee with two completely different super cool jackets or blazers.

If you could travel back in time and live in a particular style era, which would it be and why?

I'm kinda happy with how things are right now, the fun thing about fashion is that things are always coming back after a couple of years. What I like about this era is that is everybody is free to wear whatever they like. At least in Amsterdam!

We all have that one outfit (or many outfits!) that we recollect and cringe with embarrassment. Do you have any style tips to reduce the number of outfits in our "I Can't Believe I Wore That" archive?

Believe me when I tell you I have the very same problem. I think the best tip I can give is to always try to wear stuff that compliments your body. Now this doesn't mean that one can't experiment with shapes, colours or new trends, but try to listen to the mirror as much as you can.

Finally, if you had to sum up your style philosophy what would it be?

I try to keep things simple, but at the same time always try to give an outfit some sort of edge or twist by adding something chunky, bold or crazy, to make it interesting. I also like to mix high street brands and vintage with designer stuff.
