Meet Chomy! The fierce, fabulous and fearless mind behind “Culture Cynic”.

What inspired you to start your blog?
I really just wanted an outlet for all the crazy randoms in my head. I didn't want anyone to represent or speak for me. I wanted something that would be in my own words and based on my own reality.

I have always been a bit "defiant" so it's only natural that it will be reflected in how I present myself through clothes. I was always very opinionated and I am just really into doing my own thing, anyone who has known me long enough to form a somewhat rounded opinion about me can attest to that. A lot of my confidence came from a dark place of never quite being  "enough" for people. I gave up trying to get people to understand me and just focused on understanding myself!

You have quite a distinctive mane! Do you find it ever restricts your clothing choices or does it compliment them?
Thanks! I don't really think about restrictions, there are always different things I can do to change up the look or make it more complimentary to what I am wearing at the time. But big and messy has always been my aesthetic and works for me!

What are the 5 items in your wardrobe you can't live without?
I think I can live without clothes, they are just things after all, but if I had to pick sides?  Let’s see:
(1) My scarves
(2) Long skirts.
(3) Belts
(4) Earrings,
(5) Animal prints (I’ve never met a leopard or cheetah I didn't drool over!)

Can you recommend an "emergency outfit'" for our reader, for those days when she has nothing to wear?

There is always something to wear I will just recommend putting it together differently. Try putting a blouse over your favourite dress and belting it. That ugly tube top retired to the back of your closet? Wear it as a skirt and throw a fabulous blouse over it. Still in doubt? OVERACCESORISE!

In a society that places so much pressure on fitting in, how do you think young women can find their personal style without compromising?
My advice is to get rid of the mental images of your chosen role models. There are a lot of girls who want to dress exactly like someone else. It is okay to admire people and even be inspired by others but for the young woman still trying to find herself it can be very confusing. For me, I think spending time by myself helped me at a very young age to believe in myself and learn to trust my own instincts.

I think that people tend to forget that style is merely an extension of who you are. You can't express your own style if you don't know who you are as a person.  Try to see yourself in relation to yourself not as an extension of someone else. The only way to get there is to spend time by yourself. Know what you like!
